10 DIY Door Wreath Crafts

by Elowen

I was out on my porch the other day and was on juuust the right angle to notice how badly I need to wash the front window. Blegh! I thought, if I’m going to do it, I’ll do it properly and clean the porch, top to bottom. Later that same day I was looking at button crafts and saw the cutest button door wreath and thought I’ll zhuzh the porch a little when I clean it up. So now I’m here to help inspire you to clean your front door step with some ‘pro-craft-ination’!

Weave your own wreath

Weave your own wreath

I love weaving with soft twigs or branches. It’s one of those crafts that doesn’t take long, can be entirely free depending on where you source your materials, and falls into that rare crafting category of ‘instant gratification’ because you have a usable wreath as soon as you’re finished! It’s also a great base for wreaths, and can be decorated or zhuzhed in any way you can imagine!

Yarn wrapped button wreath

I found this wreath the other day when I was looking for button crafts and tucked it away for a whole post about wreaths. Like nearly everything that features buttons, it’s super cute and very customisable. I also like that this wreath could look good in any season.

Dried apple wreath

This looks like it would smell amazing! I’ve never dried apples myself, so I don’t know if they smell good or not, but in my mind, they smell delicious! Either way, I like the simplicity of this wreath and that you can decorate the apples to your taste. I think cinnamon quills would be a fantastic accompaniment, too.

This is another base that could be finished in a multitude of different ways to suit your tastes. It’s lovely just on its own, but even better decorated, and if you made your decorations detachable, you could change them seasonally without having to change the base.

It’s always amazing to me how beautiful and realistic paper flowers can be. When I see crepe paper in its natural form I don’t immediately think ‘this could be a beautiful, delicate, and realistic paper flower’, but they certainly can be! I’ve long wanted to try my hand at making giant paper flowers, and this could be a great introduction into that.

Paint swatch (chip) wreath

I’m an absolute sucker for anything with a leaf motif, but this is really pretty and oh so simple! My daughter loves picking out paint swatches (or chips as I think Americans refer to them) from the hardware store, so whenever we go, we always end up with a bunch of them; This sort of wreath would be such a good way to use them.

More leaves! This is such a pretty wreath and you could customise it how you like, with different leaf shapes and colours. Even if you don’t have easy access to leaf stencils, I’ve always found that a quick Google search of silhouettes means that with a little time to cut said silhouette out, I’ve got workable stencils in no time!

Fluffy fun Winter wreath

I looked at a lot of wreaths when poking around the internet, and this one caught my eye for being such a unique texture and overall look. I think it’s a very fun and wintery wreath that would look especially good on a coloured front door.

Pompoms are just fun, aren’t they? They’re great to get kids to make, too, because they hit that sweet-spot of taking long enough that kids get invested, but not so long that they lose interest. Again, these are super customisable and I love that with any craft project. It’s also a great way to use up left-over yarn that isn’t quite enough to make any projects with but too much to bin.

Moss & mushroom wreath

Uhhh, I think this wreath is FANTASTIC! I really want to make one of these but I’ll have to wait until all the materials arrive. I love mushrooms and moss, I love fairy lights, and I love glow in the dark things. I think this wreath is just stunning and cannot wait to make one of my own. I also think you could weave your own wreath base, which would be fun. Imagine using moss you’ve gathered from your own yard for a living moss wreath?! Fabulous!
