Home Is Not Selling? Here’s Why

Home Is Not Selling Here's Why

The home is not selling? There are many reasons why this could be, and even your stuff being in view can cause this. In many cases, you may just need to spruce up the property a little to make it more appealing to a modern buyer, many of which are more finicky than we would like.

Lack of Maintenance

Buyers can tell when a home hasn’t been maintained well, and this goes beyond how the decor looks. It is more to do with the structure and the general integrity of the building than its looks. For example, a lack of pest control can cause wood rot as termites eat the wooden parts of a basement. And even the guttering can get clogged up and cause multiple issues, not least water leaking into the home. So take care of these issues first, or lower your asking price significantly.

Your Stuff is Everywhere

Another thing buyers don’t like is seeing the previous owner’s stuff in the home. Of course, you live there, but always make sure everything is hidden if you have a viewing. Remove family photos and replace them with generics, declutter the kitchen and bathroom, and make sure clothes, shoes and underwear are put away. It can also help to spruce up the home with a spring clean and decorating in neutral colours so buyers can envision themselves there.

Home Not Selling Because of Damp and Mould

Damp and mould are home killers. You need to address these early on, or they will only get worse, and expert removal can cost a lot of money. In the meantime, your home is essentially unsellable until the issue is rectified. And no buyer will even think of making an offer if they spot these. It isn’t anyone’s fault, and dampness is common in almost 1 million homes in the UK alone. You should also install airflow devices and measures in the home after removing these.

Renovation is Much Needed

It could be that your home isn’t modernised, and most buyers like to see that a home is up to date. Thai includes replacing outdated decor with trending or modern looks. But it also goes much deeper. Some buyers will also want to see renovations that increase the amount of natural light in the home. And older carpets and flooring may also need replacing to get rid of any lingering smells. However, you can add these costs to your asking price later on.

Nowhere to Park

Believe it or not, there is a shortage of parking spaces in some countries. The UK even has a burgeoning fringe industry of homeowners renting out their driveways for some extra cash. Therefore a buyer may need a place to park if they have one or multiple cars or want to use it to make some money after they buy the property. If you have the land, you can have contractors clear it and lay down concrete or pavers to make a great parking spot that attracts buyers.

Summary

It could be because of a lack of maintenance if the home is not selling as you intended. This can lead to damp and mould, which always puts off buyers, but it could also be a lack of parking.
