I’ve been down the craft tutorial rabbit hole again. It began with looking for acorn themed crafts (those are coming soon) and then I found this squee-inducing Autumn themed bunting with acorns, mushrooms, and leaves, and then I was off on a bunting themed tangent! It’s actually perfectly timed, because Birthday season and Father’s Day are both fast approaching in our household! My and my husband’s birthdays are only eight days apart, and Father’s Day usually falls in that week, too. Then only a month after that is our daughter’s birthday, so it’s a really fun time for us! It’s my husband’s birthday in less than two weeks, so now is a great time for my daughter and I to start making some lovely buntings to put up for his celebration!
It’s still Winter here in Australia, for the rest of August, anyway, so I’m starting with a Winter themed bunting. I think this is really pretty, and I love making paper snowflakes. The scalloped paper is a clever way of hanging the snowflakes, and making something so delicate a little sturdier, but I think it would be prettier with blue, maybe multiple different blues, behind the snowflakes rather than black.
Keeping with the seasonal theme, because daffodils scream Spring to me, and I think this is such a cute and uniquely 3-dimensional bunting. Also, if you’re anything like me, you have heaps of egg-cartons saved for craft activities and it’s nice to find new uses for them! My daughter always loves using them and I think she’s going to really love making these daffodils.
This is my Summer bunting! We’ve had a roll of brown paper in our crafty bits and bobs for ages now, and it’s a little too delicate for regular drawing on – it rips really easily. I had planned to wrap presents with it for a nice rustic feel, but the paper tore so easily that it was impractical, but this bunting would be a perfect use for it! I think it’s really pretty, I love leaf themed things, and I like that the ‘string’ for this bunting is crafted as well. My daughter immediately liked this one and couldn’t wait to make it.
So this is the bunting the started it me down the bunting rabbit hole! It’s SO CUTE! It’s absolutely spot on to my taste and I cannot wait to make it. Honestly, what more could you want but adorable leaves, acorns, and mushrooms! It’s also a good activity for kids to practice cutting out neatly.
Craft felt is a perfect material to use in bunting! Being more sturdy means you can re-use it seasonally, year after year. I like the alien looking one especially, very fun! I also like that you could let your kids make up monsters of their own to go on their bunting, rather than the traditional set of monsters.
I like that each and every flag of this bunting will be unique. I think this is a very accessible and enjoyably messy craft activity that kids of all ages will enjoy. They’ll get a real kick out of watching the paints mix and spread as they spin it.
These fat little owls are too cute, and are super customisable with different papers. I feel like with a slight tweak these could be any bird, so you could make little robins for Christmas or little chicks for Easter or little Summery bluebirds! You could also spend some time with your kids looking at different types of birds and then letting them have a go at making them into their bunting!
This one is very unusual and I think would be super appealing to kids who are fans of Minecraft! You could print the template out on white card and allow the kids to colour them as different Minecraft blocks!
I, like most of you, have bought my share of washi tape. It comes in an almost endless variety of colours and patterns, but… as actual tape… well… it’s frustratingly likely to lift up and not actually tape anything down. This activity is such a great way to use some of those rolls of cute washi tape! I bet kids will really enjoy making their own icy-pole washi tape buntings!
This is a very unusual bunting, and the driftwood is pretty, but I think any good stick would work here. I think a lot of kids would enjoy collecting the materials for their little boats as much as actually making them! Being that hot-glue is in use here, you would probably want to do this activity with slightly older kids.
This one looks really pretty, I love a good flower bunting, and I love origami! It looks challenging enough that, like with the boats, you might want to do this one with slightly older kids, but it was so pretty and unique that I wanted to include it.
Okay so I usually stick to written tutorials for my craft activities, but these little tortoises are too cute so I absolutely had to include them! I also love that you could adjust them to be other cute (and similarly shaped) animals. This one is another activity that’s good for practicing cutting skills and would appeal to kids who are more visual learners.
