15 Craft Tables for Budding Artists

15 Craft Tables for Budding Artists

If, like me, you are a shop online kind of person, there can be so much choice when you’re looking for a specific item that it can quite honestly be paralysing! Have no fear, though, because I’ve done the ‘Windows’ shopping for you, and here are 18 kids craft tables and desks.

Before looking for items for this list I first asked my daughter (who is 9-years-old now) what she liked or wanted in her craft areas. She surprised me by saying instantly that the first thing was a built-in bin, so that she didn’t have to keep getting up and down, and the second thing she wanted was built-in storage for all her crafting materials. The third thing she mentioned was a preference for a drink holder, so she didn’t have to worry about her cups getting knocked over onto her work. I was impressed with the practicality of these requests and how fast she came up with them! Alas, many of the options I found below lack a bin or cup holder, but a mini bin could easily be put into one of the storage compartments of many of them.

To keep things simple, I’ve found all of these for sale on Amazon, because that way no matter where you are you’re likely to be able to use the links I’ve provided. They are listed in order of least to most expensive, and there’s really something for every budget here. Also, keep in mind that all of these tables and desks will require some assembly.

Note: In terms of aesthetics or decorating your kids’ bedroom with these tables, many of these items are white. Now, I personally am a maximalist who leans into whimsy, décor-wise, so the idea of pieces of white furniture, especially for children, runs strongly against my tastes. If you’re like me, I’d like to point out that it would be easy to paint these items, or if you’re not a painter, to use peel-and-stick wallpaper/contact to turn these pieces into truly unique items for your little crafter! Many of these sets do have coloured options, but more often than not those ran at a higher price-point, and if you’re going to pay more I’d think you’d rather buy a paint or contact to fully customise it to your preference.

1. Space Adventures Chair Desk with Storage Bin

Space Adventures Chair Desk with Storage Bin (1)

Price: $39.42

This is a very cost efficient and space efficient little desk! I could see it being the sort of thing I’d pop in a corner of the kitchen to keep my daughter entertained whilst I was cooking. The downside here is that with a max weight of 22kg, or 50lbs, you’re looking at little one outgrowing it around age 6, and it really isn’t a lot of surface space. For the price, however, I think it’s really decent.

2. Lufeiya Small White Desk with Drawers

Lufeiya Small White Desk with Drawers

Price: $62.90

Ah, here is the first of the pieces of white children’s furniture. Yeah, it’d last about five seconds in that state in my house before it was thoroughly transformed into something pretty or whimsical. Moving on! This is a really cute little desk which could serve as a great crafting space. It doesn’t come with a chair, though, so keep that in mind. It’s also best for single users, I’d think, so not the best choice for spaces where more than one little artist would be at work.

3. Milliard Kids Mid Century Modern Table and Chair Set with Storage Baskets

Milliard Kids Mid Century Modern Table and Chair Set with Storage Baskets

Price: $69.99

I am not into mid-century modern furniture, personally, but I know that it’s definitely a very popular design choice these days, and for those who’ve decorated with that aesthetic this little table and chair set would be perfect. It has some nice storage with the draws under the tabletop, and I like the wood-tone of the table and chair legs. I like that two little crafters can use this set, but would think at around age 6 the set up would be becoming uncomfortably small and you would have to look at something on a larger scale.

4. Milliard Kids Activity Play Table and Chair Set with Storage Baskets

Milliard Kids Activity Play Table and Chair Set with 2 Storage Baskets

Price: $79.99

You know I don’t love this colour palette, and would cover it in cute contact as soon as I’d assembled it (maybe even before!), but I do love the functionality here, much like the previous entry. Usable by two children at the same time, storage is accessible whilst the tabletop is in use and by both users, and the chairs look nice and sturdy. This set also seems like it would be usable for a little longer than the above set, in terms of your little one out-growing it.

5. Melissa & Doug Wooden Lift-Top Desk & Chair

Melissa & Doug Wooden Lift-Top Desk & Chair

Price: $80.99

This cute little desk has a lovely, antique furniture vibe even with its modern lines, because of the natural wood tone. I think this is a really nice little desk, and is recommended for ages up to 8 which is great! The only downside with these is that once the desk is in use the storage isn’t really accessible, nor is it very abundant. This is also a one-person crafting space, though it would probably see a lot of use as your little one began schooling or if, like us, you home school.

6. UNICOO – Bamboo Height Adjustable Kids Desk and Chair Set

UNICOO - Bamboo Height Adjustable Kids Desk and Chair Set

Price: $89.99

I love that this desk is adjustable! I also love that it remains in its natural bamboo colour, and whilst the storage isn’t exceptional it is accessible whilst the desk is in use. As with the above desk, this is for one little creative at a time, but would also be useful for schooling as well as crafting. I do wonder if it will stand up to a lot of use, as the legs look a little thin to me, but there’s multiple mentions of how sturdy the set is in the reviews.

7. Costzon Kids Activity Table and Chair Set

Costzon Kids Activity Table and Chair Set

Price: $97.99

This set is entirely plastic, making it super easy to clean, but… it’s entirely plastic. Now, I’m not knocking you if you like plastic kids’ furniture, I can understand why. It’s durable and easy to maintain, light enough to move, can stand up to being outside some of the time, and usually has rounded edges in case of bumps. However, I am of the opinion that we could do with far less plastic in our lives and try to steer clear of it where I can. I like that this is usable by two children at the same time, and that the storage containers are on all sides, though they are a bit small. This set is recommended for up to age 7, which is pretty good, too.

8. Costzon Kids 3 in 1 Wooden Activity Table and Chair Set

Costzon Kids 3 in 1 Wooden Activity Table and Chair Set

Price: $119.99

I like the natural wood tone of this set, and I like that there’s storage not only under the tabletop but also under each chair. I also like how neatly it all packs away, and the inclusion of a blackboard on the reverse side of the tabletop. I don’t love having the main storage being under the tabletop, however, because once the crafting is underway it’s inaccessible. It’s good for two tiny artists to use at the same time, though, which is nice, as is the fact that the space beneath the tabletop can be used as a play surface as well, but that would mean next to no storage. I also think this set is on the small side and you’ll probably have to replace it at around age 5 or 6.

9. Step2 Deluxe Art Master Kids Desk

Step2 Deluxe Art Master Kids Desk

Price: $119.99

Again, I don’t love that this one is plastic, but I do like the overall design being bright and kid-friendly. Those little storage nooks are so cute and pretty plentiful, but could you imagine cleaning them of all the little bits of stuff that you know will end up in there?! Yikes! I also love the built-in light on this one, but don’t love that the weight limit is 20kgs, so it will only be usable up to ages 5 or 6.

10. GDLF Kids Art Table and 2 Chairs

GDLF Kids Art Table and 2 Chairs

Price: $129.99

I really like this little table and chair set! I love the built-in storage on this one, and that it’s accessible even whilst the table is in use. I like that you could easily put tubs on those two shelves, meaning you could have craft activities sorted and therefore easy to put away after little ones have finished playing. I love the roll of craft-paper on the side! My daughter has an easel with the roll at the top, but I like this one even better! It looks like a good size and would accommodate many different crafty activities, even if those little nooks would again be a bit of a bother to clean out. This one is recommended for 3- to 8-year-olds, and accommodates two users at once. My daughter really likes this one, too.

11. UTEX Kids Wooden Corner Hutch Study Desk with Chair

UTEX Kids Wooden Corner Hutch Study Desk with Chair

Price: $154.84

This is one of only two desks or tables that I saw when I was compiling this list that is specifically made for corners! We are very space-poor in our little house, as I know many are, and sometimes a little corner space is all you have. Again, it would last about five seconds before I attacked it with paint or contact to zhuzh it up as it’s too bright white for my hobbity little self. This is very much a one child crafting space, but it could also be a school-work space, as the description recommends it for ages 3 to 8. Depending on the corner it was tucked into, it could help keep little ones whose minds are easily distracted on track, too. There’s not a lot of storage space, here, but it is accessible whilst the desk is in use.

12. Bestier Gaming Desk with Power Outlets and LED

Bestier Gaming Desk with Power Outlets and LEDPrice: $155.99

This desk is far more modern than I usually like, but in this pink colour it’s pretty darn cute! Whilst it’s listed as a gaming desk, I think it would be a fantastic crafting and schooling space for any budding artist! Keep in mind with this one which country you’re purchasing it for as the outlet function might not work for you without adaptors, certainly not here in Australia. I do like the built in LEDs as it’s both fun and sometimes really very helpful. The lighting is not great in my house so lamps are a must, and the LEDs give the benefit of a lamp without losing table space. The storage isn’t extensive, but it is useful and customisable. No chair comes with this one, but there’s no reason your child is going to outgrow this desk and it could become a computer desk later on.

13. Milliard 2-in-1 Kids Easel Art Table and Chair Set

Milliard 2-in-1 Kids Easel Art Table and Chair Set

Price: $169.99

Well, isn’t this a little spiff?! Okay so the colour palette is super bland to me, but that’s easily rectified, and some of the storage is under the tabletop, but in this case that’s not nearly so much of an issue because the tabletop comes up as an easel! I think this one is fantastic! I love that there’s a lot of storage, and that it’s very much usable by two little artists at the same time. I love all the paint pot spaces accessible on the tabletop, too. I could see the assembly being somewhat complex on this, but from reading the comments I think it’s not too difficult. My daughter also really likes this one, she declares it her favourite of the list! An age range isn’t given on this one, but I’d think it’d be too small for comfortable use by age 10.

14. KidKraft Wooden Desk and Chair for Children

KidKraft Wooden Desk and Chair for Children

Price: $222.37

Yet another white desk, but you know the drill, you can customise it to your heart’s content! This is a one user at a time desk, but would fit your little ones right up to your not-so-little ones! The built-in storage is quite good, and I think small crafters would feel quite ‘grown up’ using something styled like this. I did notice from the reviews that some people had some issues with assembly, specifically not screwing the tabletop on too tightly lest the screws damage the top surface, which at this price-point shouldn’t be an issue, but I included it because if put together with care this set up could last your child quite a long time, I could see this in use from ages 3 to about 10.

15. Melissa & Doug Wooden Art Table & Chairs Set

Melissa & Doug Wooden Art Table & Chairs Set

Price: $231.84

This design is very similar to the Milliard 2-in-1 easel table except it doesn’t have the easel. If you have little ones prone to closing things on their fingers you might like this design more, and it is well rated. I like the natural looking wood of the seats and the tabletop, but I wish they had included storage tubs like the Milliard did, though of course you could source those yourself, but at this price-point I don’t think you should have to. I also preferred the paint pot spaces being on level with the table surface of the Milliard, but I appreciate the inclusion of them on this table, even if it’s slightly less convenient. It’s recommended for ages 3 to 8 and would suit up to two tiny artists at the same time.

Conclusion

So, there you have it! I think this is a fairly comprehensive list, or at least a good launching point if you want to find something else. The easel table remains my favourite of this list but there are a lot of good choices here.
