My family and I have loved traveling since I was still a kid. I used to go crazy in buying souvenirs because I’ve always believed that they bring back memories of the places we’ve been, and I kept doing that as I grew up. Now that I’m a fully functioning adult that has adult money, that simple habit became a collection. Would you actually believe that I was able to collect fridge magnets from the 7 Wonders of the World? Yep, all 7!
I wanted to display my ref magnet collection at home, so I looked for ref magnet frames in stores and online. I was already losing my mind because I couldn’t find one, so I just decided to make my own. It required some patience and elbow grease, but what can I say… everything’s worth it.
In this guide, I’ll show you how to make a DIY ref magnet frame at home.

DIY Ref Magnet Frame Materials Needed
Shadow box frame (you can buy this online)
Metal sheet
Masking tape or Kraft tape
Spray paint (any color)
Scissors
Ref Magnet
How to Make a DIY Ref Magnet Frame at Home (Step-by-step Instructions)
Step 1: Cut the Metal Sheet to the Exact Size of Your Shadow Box Frame
I have a leftover metal sheet from when I built a fence in our backyard. I asked my neighbor to help me cut the metal sheet to the same size as the shadow box frame I bought online. I also requested to have the edges rounded so I won’t get cut.

Step 2: Paint the Metal Sheet
Spray paint the metal sheet (in any color you like). I only spray paint the side of the metal sheet where I will put my ref magnets. Then, let it dry. You can also use regular metal paint. But I noticed that spray paint dries faster than regular paint.

Step 3: Place Your Ref Magnets on the Metal Sheet

This is the fun part! You can now place your ref magnets in the metal sheet.
Tip: Do not over-crowd your ref magnets in the frame. Make sure to leave some space so they look neat.

Step 4: Place Your Assembled Ref Magnets in the Shadow Box Frame and Lock it
Carefully place your metal sheet with magnets upside down in the shadow box frame. Make sure to level the four sides of the metal sheet in the frame. Then, put the back of the frame and tape it using masking tape or kraft tape to close the shadow box frame.

Viola! You Now Have Your Own DIY Ref Magnet Frame
Sometimes, the best things in life are the ones you make yourself, and sometimes, it’s your next DIY project. It was a total fun working on this DIY ref magnet. I literally can’t stop smiling every time I pass by it. Every time I see it, it feels like I’m taking a mini trip around the world while reminiscing the experiences I had. It also didn’t hurt my wallet, so that’s another important thing to point out. I hope you have fun doing your own ref magnet frame!
