Materials You Will Need for DIY Christmas Box Pole Display
- Christmas gift wrapper of your choice
- Long wooden stick or pole (you can use your old mop or brush pole)
- Used carton boxes (the thicker the better)
- Scotch tape
- Glue gun
- Pencil
- Reindeer pattern
- Scissor
- Any Christmas ornaments (e.g., ribbons, candy cane, etc.)
- Glitters
- Elmer’ Glue
- White thick paper
- Cutter
- Spray Paint (any color of your choice)
Step 1: Making a Hole in the Pole’s Base
Choose a big rectangle flat box for your pole’s base. Draw a hole in the middle of the box exactly as the pole’s width. You can use your pole as your guide to make sure that the size of the hole will be exactly as the pole’s width. Using a cutter, you can cut the guide you just drew to make a hole in the box. Then, do a test to make sure your pole fits in the hole you just made.
Note: If you don’t have a flat box available, you can use a big plastic pot, add stones inside the pot, and cover the top with a used carton.
Step 2: Painting the Pole’s Base
Make sure the box’s lids are taped, but leave one lid open. You will need an open lid to put some books or any heavy item inside the box to secure the pole later on.
Spray paint the box. Let it dry.
Note: Using spray paint is a bit expensive but easy to use and faster to dry. But if you want to save money or opt for a cheaper version to color your pole’s base, use acrylic paint, or if you have leftover paint in storage, you can also use that instead.
Step 3: Gift Wrapping Your Boxes
You will figure out how many boxes you will use depending on the height of the pole and the size of the box. To know the number of boxes you need, simply arrange the boxes on the floor and then measure the boxes using the pole. Don’t forget to measure the base too in the pole as you will insert a few inches of the pole in the box.
Make sure all of the box’s lids are taped before you wrap the box. Then, wrap each box with a gift wrap paper.
Step 4: Making a Hole in All the Boxes
Do the same step as step #1, but make a hole at the bottom of the box. Make a hole in the top center of the box exactly as the pole’s width. Be as gentle as you can to avoid damaging the gift wrapper.
Step 5. Stacking All the Boxes
Add books inside the box to give additional support to your base and the entire pole, and close the lid of the box using scotch tape. Stack all the boxes on the pole and then insert the pole with boxes in the base. Use a glue gun to secure the pole. I added small gift boxes in the base (boxes are glued to the base, too) to add support to the pole and for added decorations to the display.
Step 6: Making a Reindeer Ornament
Materials for DIY Reindeer Display:
Step 1: Google some cute reindeer drawings and print your chosen reindeer. Cut the print to make a reindeer pattern. Then, place the reindeer in the carton and put a scotch tape to prevent the pattern from moving. Cut the carton following the reindeer pattern. This is a bit tricky as the carton is thick and hard to cut. Just take your time while cutting the carton. And lastly, remove the reindeer pattern.
Step 2: Place the reindeer carton you just made on the thick white paper and trace the reindeer using a pencil. Remove the carton, and you can start cutting the reindeer. Make two of these to cover the front and back of the reindeer carton.
Step 3: Cover your reindeer carton with white paper on both sides. Use Elmer’s glue liquid, but you can also use Elmer’s glue sticks as they dry faster than the liquid one.
Don’t forget to cover the sides too. Just cut a strip with the same size as the sides of the reindeer. Let it dry.
Step 4: Draw a line between the horn and the head of the reindeer. This will be your guide in adding glitter to the horns. And then, add Elmer’s glue liquid to the horn and then pour glitter into the horns. Then, tap the reindeer to remove excess glitter. Let it dry.
Voila! Reindeer is Ready to be displayed! Isn’t it so cute!!!

Step 7: Decorating Your Christmas Box Pole Display
I highly suggest adding decor to each box to make it pretty. In my case, I added ribbons, and artificial red berries with leaves in each box.
Oh, don’t forget your DIY reindeer! Glue the reindeer on the base.
