Just Because She Deserves It: Thoughtful Gift Ideas to Celebrate Mom

Gifting our mom

Whenever I think about why my mom is so special to me, I remember all the ways she’s always made even the most ordinary moments feel important.

Sure, growing up, I never really realised it or noticed all the little things she did behind the scenes: the lovingly packed school lunches, the way she would prepare my favorite meal whenever I’d had a bad day, or how she always made every day feel like a special occasion, something to be grateful for.

So, when it comes to celebrating Mom, I don’t need a specific reason: I’m just grateful that she is, well, her. The most amazing, kind, and strongest woman I know, my mom is genuinely my best friend, and she deserves to be celebrated all year round.

She Deserves It: Celebrating Mom All Year Round

We don’t need to wait for Mother’s Day, the Christmas holidays, or even her birthday to celebrate Mom.

No, our moms deserve to be celebrated year-round: whether that’s surprising her with her favorite bouquet of flowers, a pick-me-up treat from the local bakery, or even something as simple as making her a cup of coffee just the way she likes it. Because, after all, Mom has always been the one who has done everything for us, and sometimes, it’s nice to return the favor by showing her just how grateful we are.

In my opinion, the best way to celebrate Mom? Find out what her love language is. Maybe it’s acts of service. Or, perhaps she prefers to be showered with loving words of affirmation. For some moms, quality time and physical affection are how they most like to feel appreciated. For those moms, sharing a cup of tea together on the couch or giving her a big bear hug are the best ways to show her how much we appreciate her. For other Moms, their love language might be receiving gifts. If that’s the case, sourcing something special from a giftware wholesaler must be just the ticket to put a smile on her face.

But regardless of the way Mom prefers to receive love, the truth is that she’ll never turn down a token that shows we’ve thought of her: a special gesture ‘just because’.

Make it Personal: ‘Just Because’ Gifts, Just for Her

The most thoughtful gifts? In my opinion, they’re the ones that are totally out of the blue.

Giving Mom a ‘just because’ gift for no special reason (other than that you love her) is a sure-fire way to make her smile. That being said, what we choose to gift her is also important. We don’t just want to give her something generic, something anyone could pick up from the local dollar store. No, if we’re doing it, we may as well do it right. Choosing a gift that’s personal, something she’ll actually love, is essential. Our tip? Find something that’s authentically her: an item that truly reflects her personal taste.

The key to this? Identify your mom’s style. What’s her favorite colour, for example? Which hobbies does she gravitate towards? Maybe she loves scrapbooking. If that’s the case, gift her some art and craft supplies to top up her collection. Or, if she enjoys a sweet treat, you could pick up her favorite cupcake on your way over to her place next time you go to visit. If she’s a music lover, you could even just send her a link to her favorite tune on whatever streaming platform she uses. Gift-giving doesn’t have to be expensive; it can be just a small gesture to show her that you’ve thought of her.

Where to Find It: The Best Spots to Source Something for Mom

Whenever I’m searching for the perfect gift for Mom, I like to think beyond the obvious. Sure, I could go to my local gift store, pick up some generic stationery from the post office, or quickly grab a box of mass-produced chocolates or some withered, sad-looking flowers from the supermarket.

But by thinking outside of the box, I’ve come up with unique pieces my mom has treasured for years. One time when she was feeling blue, I went to the store and printed out some old photos of us I had stored on my phone, from when I was little and she was, of course, much younger. The faded shots I put together in a plastic binder of me and her splashing in the waves (Mom looking especially glam in her favorite bathing suit) on a family holiday by the beach cheered her up in no time, and the smile on her face was priceless.

Again, choosing the perfect ‘just because’ gift for Mom doesn’t have to be expensive: it just needs to be thoughtful, meaningful, and show her that you love her.
